  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 cup caramel sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease the cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with buttermilk, starting and ending with dry ingredients.
  6. Fold in chocolate chips and divide the batter evenly between prepared pans.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn out onto wire racks to cool completely.
  9. Once cool, layer the cakes with caramel sauce and additional chocolate chips as desired.
