  • 6 egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 1/4 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup mascarpone cheese
  • 1 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled
  • 1/4 cup coffee liqueur (optional)
  • 24 ladyfinger cookies
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together egg yolks and sugar until pale and creamy.
  2. In a saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until steaming, then gradually whisk it into the egg mixture.
  3. Cook the mixture on low heat until it thickens, then remove from heat and let cool.
  4. In another bowl, whip heavy cream until stiff peaks form, then fold in mascarpone cheese.
  5. Combine the cooled egg mixture with the mascarpone mixture until smooth.
  6. In a shallow dish, mix coffee and coffee liqueur.
  7. Dip ladyfingers briefly in the coffee mixture and arrange in a dish.
  8. Spread half the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
  9. Repeat the layers with the remaining ingredients.
  10. Chill for at least 4 hours in the refrigerator.
  11. Before serving, dust with cocoa powder.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use dark chocolate for garnish.
  • Allow the tiramisu to set overnight for the best texture.
